We are a gathering of believers focused on growing in the nature and wisdom of Christ. We believe that the future of the Church lies in its ability to reflect the glory of God through authentic love and unity among members in the body of Christ.
Beyond this, one of our primary objectives in ministry is to attend to the growth and development of each member of our local gathering. We equip members so each person can confindently share their gifts and callings with minimal direction and guidance. We anticipate that every person will discover their purpose and have opportunities to develop it within our ministry context.
Since we believe that everyone has God-given gifts that are important to the entire body, we are looking for people like you to become active participants in our mission. We hope you will join us as we seek to edify our community and one another on life's journey.
Our Founder
Rev. Dr. Lena Holmes is a licensed and ordained minister who has seamlessly woven her spiritual calling with a distinguished career in the business and nonprofit sectors. Her journey in ministry commenced in the late 1990s, where she contributed her musical talents as part of the praise and worship team at Living Word Christian Center in Baltimore. After more than a decade of dedicated service in music ministry, Dr. Lena joined River of Life Church under the guidance of Pastors Bennett and Jean Donnell.
During her time at River of Life, Dr. Lena took on various roles, including that of a lay leader and youth minister. She also served as a valued member of the teaching staff for the River of Life Bible School. Recently, she held the position of Deacon at Journey Church in Parkville, Maryland. She frequently shares her insights as a guest speaker at Journey Church and other congregations in Baltimore. Additionally, Dr. Lena has played a pivotal role as a ministry business and nonprofit consultant for many Baltimore-area churches and faith-based organizations.
Dr. Lena holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, from Northeastern University, Master of Arts in Theology from St. Mary’s Seminary and University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore, and a Doctor of Ministry in Transformational Leadership from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. Her diverse education reflects her commitment to integrating faith, leadership, and community service in a holistic manner.
